I am a primary school teacher who has spent many happy years in the classroom. I now work as an education consultant training school staff to rollout The RULER Approach in their schools.
My main concern when teaching has always been the emotional wellbeing of the pupils in my care.
With this in mind I trained at The Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence to take The RULER Approach into schools to support and develop the Emotional Intelligence and Emotional Literacy of whole school communities.
RULER is built on decades of evidence based research, it aims is to embed the principles of Emotional Intelligence into the heart of every school.
It is a huge privilege to train Nursery Schools, Pre-Preps and Primary Schools in the State and Private sectors to use The RULER Approach.
"The RULER approach is designed to teach emotional intelligence to people of all ages, with the goal of creating a healthier, more equitable, innovative, and compassionate society."
I also actively support Think Equal.
Think Equal is the global education initiative that calls for a system change in education to end the discriminatory mindset and cycle of violence across our world. It asks: “How can it be deemed compulsory for a child to learn mathematics in an age in which we have calculators, and yet it is optional for a child to learn how to value another human being and lead healthy relationships?”.
Think Equal calls on governments and education ministers to adopt its tangible, free programme mediating all aspects of value-based, experiential social and emotional learning for children aged 3-6 (including empathy, emotional literacy, resilience, self-regulation, critical thinking, gender equality, peaceful conflict resolution, self-esteem etc.).
Think Equal uses two of the RULER Anchor tools in its curriculum, namely, The Mood Meter and The Meta Moment. I have contributed lesson plans and teaching video materials to support Think Equal training across the world and have recently finished writing two children's story books for Think Equal to support the teaching of the RULER Anchor tools in the classroom.

Action for Happiness is an organisation that I promote with great enthusiasm! I was lucky enough to help co-facilitate an eight week Exploring What Matters Course and in the process realised just how important it is for us all to take action to find our own happiness and how to have fun in the process.
Mumfidential is an online magazine who's ultimate aim is to support parents through the highs and lows of motherhood. It is read by over 50,000 mothers from many different backgrounds. I write parenting advice pieces for the site and act as an Agony Aunt answering emails from parents who want a little gentle advice when they find themselves a bit stuck!
Mindfulness in Schools Project I am trained to teach Mindfulness in primary schools using the MiSP Paws b curriculum.
I have always loved my job as a primary school teacher and over the years have acted as a form teacher, tutor, pastoral lead, specialist PSHE and RE teacher and head of both departments, school listener and counsellor. I have taught many different age groups in Portugal, Spain and in England acting as a form and specialist teacher, at one point I wrote a whole school PSHE curriculum.
As a proud mother of three grown-up working children I have had full on experience of the ups and downs of family life, some of it as a single parent. I am pleased to say my lovely children are all happy and well and gainfully employed and to my delight one is now following me into the world of primary education.
